Halloween Album, Stalking Evil – The Influence Behind the Music

Stalking Evil Album Cover - Cosmicus Halloween Album Music

Composed by eccentric music producer, Cosmicus, “Stalking Evil” is an epic Halloween album with a diverse range of influences. These influences include artists, actors, composers, genres, and styles. Stalking Evil takes you on a haunting and mystical journey.

A Follow-up to Haunted Eve (Halloween EP)

During the fall season of 2023, Cosmicus released his Halloween EP, Haunted Eve. Because of the engagement and success of that release, he decided to record his first full-length Halloween album, Stalking Evil. Let’s explore this album – song by song…

Track 1 – Stalking Evil

The self-titled first song opens with an ambient soundtrack vibe that’s reminiscent of John Carpenter’s Halloween 3 – Season of the Witch.

Queue the creepy bells with haunting effects influenced by Tyler Bates, and you have an old-school meets modern-day Halloween sound.

When the eerie violin and Gregorian chanting kicks in, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a Resident Evil zombie shootout and Hans Zimmer’s DaVinci Code at the same time.

The song fades away into the symphony of creepy bells.

Track 2 – Ominous

The second song on the album, Ominous, is a creepy instrumental hip-hop cut with a beat heavily influenced by Michael Jackson’s Thriller album. Opening with creepy bells and a diabolical laugh, Ominous picks up where Stalking Evil ends.

In the official music video, many of the scenes start and end with Cosmicus snapping his fingers and fire appearing – kind of like Michael Weston in the Friendly Fire episode of Burn Notice. The beat is also infused with the sounds of DeVante Swing and Timbaland.

The ominous air-raid sirens in the middle of the song and music video represent the sinister nature of our world as we know it. The song progresses into and ends with Travis Scott type diabolical talking and laughter. Crystal skulls are the theme.

Cosmicus recorded an official music video to this song and will be dropping in October.

Track 3 – Dark Inside (featuring Natalie Nokomis)

Dark Inside, the third song on the album, is a collaboration with singer-songwriter, Natalie Nokomis. It’s an R&B/Pop cut with a heavy throwback hip-hop beat. Dark Inside begins with some Tyler Bates style Halloween and alien effects.

After Natalie sings the intro, the first verse starts and second beat drops, which is heavily influenced by Devante Swing from the 90s New Jack era. The first chorus vocals bring an element of Missy Elliot creepiness that haunt you with every note she sings.

When the background vocals of the second chorus hits, you’ll hear the Travis Scott influence in “no escape.” Natalie continues to haunt you.

Cosmicus and Natalie Nokomis recorded an official music video for this song and will be released in October. Learn more about the story behind Dark Inside.

Track 4 – Night Abduction (Interlude)

Since Dark Inside was such an epic song, Cosmicus felt the undeniable urge to compose Night Abduction, an interlude derived from Dark Inside, and the fourth track on the album.

It opens with otherworldly spaceship noises and frightening alien sounds. This is another ambient soundtrack song that is meant to bridge the beginning of the album to the end.

Perfect for a dark cornfield in the middle of nowhere… Just watch out for the crop circles!

Track 5 – Whisper of a Ghost

The fifth song, Whisper of a Ghost, is another creepy instrumental hip-hop cut. The song was derived from the instrumental version of Wait (Remix) by Natalie Nokomis.

It features ghostly clap delays, spooky Gregorian chanting, ghost whispering, and haunting night owl sounds. The beat was also influenced by DeVante Swing and has a 90s throwback vibe to it.

And the compositional influence of this song was influenced by a cross between Hams Zimmer’s DaVinci Code and Capcom’s Resident Evil.

The official music video to this song features Cosmicus in Gregorian cape and also unmasked (sort of). He takes a tour of creepy Old-English style churches from a sacred geometry perspective. The video drops in October.

Track 6 – Dark Inside (Instrumental)

Song number 6 is the instrumental version of Dark Inside. I mean, why not make the best song on the album available as an instrumental format?

You get everything you loved from the song, but with just the beat and spooky effects. In some ways, the instrumental can be just as creepy as the regular version…

Track 7 – Chant of the Forest

This epic Halloween album concludes with a bang! The seventh and final song on the album is Chant of the Forest. This is another ambient soundtrack cut with a lot of different musical and compositional influences.

Chant of the Forest abruptly begins with a Stephen King/ M. Night Shyamalan style opening scene. The song features lots of creepy Gregorian chanting (many in reverse and pitch lowered). After the mad piano sound (influenced by Tchaikovsky’s Hamlet overture), we get lost in the deep dark forest.

Trying to escape the horrific sounds and gruesome noises coming from everywhere, you’d think you’re on the set of Carter Burwell’s Blair Witch Project. But to no avail, you only find the creepy church where Gregorian monks are chanting mercilessly.

Between monks whispering and diabolically chanting, ambient forest noises, chains clanking, heavy doors slamming, and people screaming, you’re convinced there’s no way out… you’re destined to parish in the haunted forest!

And then it’s over – or is it? The mad piano sound returns and is accompanied by a melancholy vioin riff (influenced by the song Glycerine from Bush). Once the violin ceases, the diabolical whispering and chanting returns… only to end abruptly with another Stephen King/ M. Night Shyamalan style closing scene.

Stay Scared and Stay Tuned for the Next Halloween Album!

The composition, production and mastering of this Halloween album, plus the directing, shooting, and production of the music videos took almost 10 months to complete.

But it was well worth the effort! If you loved this album and want more – worry not, Cosmicus is already working on his Halloween 2025 album as you read this.

So, stay scared… and stay tuned!
