City Nights – The Story Behind my Instrumental Hip-Hop Song

Cosmicus - City Nights Chicago

50 Cent Meets Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

If you ever wondered what a 50 Cent and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony collaboration would sound like, City Nights is a sick combination of thug meets club. This instrumental hip-hop cut is a fresh banger with a throwback vibe.

That’s the unique sound I wanted to capture in this song and video. I released it as an instrumental because the catchy melody of dark and mysterious bells, paired with a sick and addictive beat, makes the song speak for itself.

Throwback Bass Pounding Hip-Hop

City Nights is a rewind back to the days of heavy bass bumping the trunk – cruising down the city neighborhoods at night. It takes you on a slow ride through the night-lit downtown streets, feeling the vibe of your favorite bassline in your chest.

If you grew up in the 90s, with bassy, hard-hitting East Coast hip hop versus subwoofer pounding West Coast rap, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

From Chicago to Your City (or Universe)

The video for City Nights begins and ends in Chicago – where I was born and raised. I made this song and video to reflect on the days of growing up as an inner-city youth. And overcoming the adversities of living in a rough Chi-town neighborhood.

It’s also a tribute to the friends and family I hung out with who helped mold the tough person I became, inside and out.

The video also features footage from big cities all over the world. City Nights is perfect for driving and bobbing your head to the badass beat, while capturing the energy of your favorite city, wherever on Earth (or in the Universe) it may be.

Even if you didn’t grow up or live in an urban area, you’ll experience the energy of city living from hearing the song and watching the video.

From City Nights to the Cosmos

Although growing up in a big city had its perks, it was also a challenging place to live as a kid. That said, when I was younger, I always fantasized about traveling far away from the city. So far, that I could almost touch the planets and stars.

I had a strong affinity for the cosmos and burning desire to access infinite wisdom contained within our galaxy and beyond the universe.

For that reason, City Nights takes you on a cosmic urban journey. A night cruise of big city streets, beaming up to the celestial portal, navigating the trippy cosmos, then traveling back to the city. It’s the best of both worlds (or other worlds).

City Nights under City Lights

So, roll your windows down and crank up the bass – this instrumental was made for cruisin’ the streets under the city lights.
